I designed a new explosive ordnance module, but when I am editing my cannon and bring up "payload" menu I don't see my new ordnance in the list - only Flak, HE, Nuke and 3 sizes of flares. I tried to create another ordnance module, but it doesn't show up in the payload menu either. The process seems pretty straightforward, so I am kinda puzzled why is it not working. Did anyone encounter this issue?

Your new design will be under module design -> explosive ordnance not ship design -> payload, you have to make a new payload 'ship' that contains the ordnance module, as well as a fuse.

Yeah, you need to build the whole package, not just the exploding stuff. OTOH you get to do a lot of creative stuff - cluster munitions with blast launchers, turretbombs, etc. You can pretty much fire anything you can fit in the barrel as your payload.
Just don't stick more than one warhead on anything, because of the brimstone bug.

Wha... What's that? Steps to reproduce, expected result, actual result, workarounds?

Wha... What's that? Steps to reproduce, expected result, actual result, workarounds? Make a missile, stick a nuke and sizeable flak warhead on it. Intercept enemy ship. Select missile. Detonate nuke. The actual result is both unexpected and rather conspicuous, so I will skip description.
