In the level editor, if you make a planet with roughly earthlike parameters city lights will appear. On sandbox or under the stellar codex section of info-links the total population will appear. I managed to get a copy of earth a population of 9 billion. As long as it is less than 1.1 G and no higher than 300 k surface temp you will start to see city lights pop up. Orbit is also important though I don't know any specifics for it. One AU for Earth is ideal. I imagine it would be less for a planet around a red dwarf. As far as I know sidereal has minimal effect, same with atmosphere and eccentricity. here is a link to the calculator I use to find the gravity (note that one G is 9.811 m/s). Does anybody know of any other parameters that affect population?

I once dived into this. Apparently there's a lot to this. It seems that even orbital eccentricity factors.

Do you know if albedo has an effect? I don't think it does considering the atmosphere has no effect on the population sustained.
