For anyone who is interested: standard NATO tracers use Strontium Nitrate (Red) and Russian/USSR/Chinese Tracers use Barium salts (Green- not in the game), so the close-est would probably be Sodium Chloride/Copper Chloride. I use Strontium myself, though I do wish it was a little brighter. Real tracer rounds are mixed with Magnesium to give them more visibility.

Barium salts (Green- not in the game) Is Barium Nitrate not a barium salt? It's not I don't know why I didn't google it first.

Is that like the natural flame color of the casing? I thought you added dye to the slugs, in which case it's a simple matter of mixing different metals dyes together to get a preferred color. Burning metals does not work that way. to get a certain color, you have to take elements which emission spectrum meets the color you need. While it is true that you can get two different things together and they will mix color, it is not as simple as "adding dye to the slug". For example, a Pink colored metal could still burn dark red or blue.

Lithium - Pure-White
Li-6 - Pure-White who knew These have a slightly pinkish tone, not quite pure like tungsten. The colour shows up better in action as opposed to in the editor.

Fun thing I just discovered - Np-237 Dioxide gives you this amazingly bright radioactive green.

Barium salts (Green- not in the game) Is Barium Nitrate not a barium salt? It's not I don't know why I didn't google it first. It is and it should burn green - slightly pale, yellowish green. In general many colours - both tracers and bulk material, seem really off - alkali metals, although there is really no sane way of using them in any structural capacity, should also look metallic and lustrous, especially in space environment.

BTW: does anyone have any conventions in regards to tracer colouration?

BTW: does anyone have any conventions in regards to tracer colouration? I more or less always use iridium. Its cyan/blue stands out. Red, orange and yellow tracers don't stand out enough from radiators IMO. But I have no system in place to use tracers to differentiate various projectile weapons. Perhaps I should.

Regarding some tracer colours being really off - it might be the game taking emission spectra of all the elements involved, weighing stoichiometrically, when in practice you only really get the cation because the anion (say nitrate or whatever) would require far more brutal treatment to show its colours. I am pedantic enough to want this sort of thing plus I like to take pretty screenshots - that's why I am asking.

I recently started using three different tracer colours: silver (green) for conventional cannons, iridium (light blue) for sandcasters and hafnia (purple) for heavy high velocity rounds. They're al distinct from each other and from other sources of glow (radiators, flares, ...).

Use gadolinium or gadolinium 157 for dark blue tracers
