how about a current tech or even 80s tech build challenge? chemical rockets, guns, etc. if you use a gun, engine, missile, laser, etc. you have to be able to point to it having been built at some point.

some of the specifics of modern weapons (or any nukes) are classified or just unlisted but we can make reasonable approximations.

I think that many challenges would be quite interesting with added limitations of only stock power generation (stock only NTRs would be a bit of an overkill, because there are too few to fill all the interesting niches) and no insane material use (like any alkali or alkaline earth metals save for magnesium, beryllium ~~and possibly lithium~~ for anything remotely structural).

Constraining available resources (power and power density in this example) does wonders for creativity.
