I've been trying to get this running on PlayonLinux today. Not much luck so far. I get to the main menu, and sometimes I get to the campaign scenario selection before it crashes, but other times it crashes as soon as I click "campaign". Clicking on "sandbox" has a similar effect. I made sure to install both libopenal1 and libopenal1:i386 (I'm on 64-bit). Any help with this would be appreciated.
What works: ship design options info links
What doesn't: campaign sandbox

johndh Did you install vcrun2013 as directed in the OP? I get the openal error too, but the game still works. I think I remember having to install vcrun2013 to get past a similar crash.

Maybe the fatal error is the one about "intel_do_flush_locked failed"? I'm finding some references to programs crashing with that error. What's your GPU/distro/X version/driver version?

Maybe the fatal error is the one about "intel_do_flush_locked failed"? I'm finding some references to programs crashing with that error. What's your GPU/distro/X version/driver version? Hmm. Google suggests that iGPU corresponds to some kind of mobile Pentium or Celeron. Is that correct? Perhaps a "Braswell" microarchitecture CPU? I'm on Haswell desktop. It sounds like Mint isn't using the Xorg version for its package version. The actual Xorg version number should be near the beginning of /var/log/Xorg.0.log I'm on Fedora, with X11 1.18.4, but I'm not actually using the video-intel DDX driver. I'm using the modesetting DDX. I didn't switch to make CoaDE work, and it's been over a year so I don't remember exactly why I switched. However, you might try it. In order to see what drivers Xorg is loading, you can run "grep -i loadmodule /var/log/Xorg.0.log". On my machine, with the modesetting driver, the output looks like this: [ 29.267] (II) LoadModule: "glx" [ 29.297] (II) LoadModule: "modesetting" [ 29.312] (II) LoadModule: "glamoregl" [ 29.560] (II) LoadModule: "fb" [ 29.957] (II) LoadModule: "libinput" [1052474.731] (II) UnloadModule: "libinput" [1075803.657] (II) UnloadModule: "libinput" [1080019.769] (II) UnloadModule: "libinput" Yours probably says something about xf86-video-intel. Steps to switch to the modesetting driver follow. Before attempting this, make sure you're comfortable with logging in on a text console (ctrl+alt+F2) and undoing your changes, because if something goes wrong here it *will* prevent X from starting. In order to use the modesetting driver you can create a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, with a name like 20-modesetting-driver.conf, with these contents: Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "modesetting" EndSection If you already have a .conf fragment that specifies the xf86-video-intel driver, say because you were giving it configuration options, you'll need to disable it, by renaming the file so it doesn't end in .conf, or moving it into another directory. If you have a single-file xorg.conf that configures the xf86-video-intel driver, you'll need to comment that part out. Once you've done that, restart X. Easiest way is to restart the whole machine. If it doesn't come back up with a GUI, log in on the text console and undo the changes. If it does, run that grep command again. Your Xorg.0.log should no longer mention xf86-video-intel, and the output should look something like mine. I'm not especially confident that this will fix your problem, but it might.

"X.Org X Server 1.18.4", so I guess it's the same as yours. user@box ~ $ grep -i loadmodule /var/log/Xorg.0.log [ 66.292] (II) LoadModule: "glx" [ 66.647] (II) LoadModule: "intel" [ 66.740] (II) LoadModule: "modesetting" [ 66.741] (II) LoadModule: "fbdev" [ 66.741] (II) LoadModule: "vesa" [ 66.785] (II) LoadModule: "fbdevhw" [ 66.828] (II) LoadModule: "dri2" [ 66.828] (II) LoadModule: "present" [ 66.828] (II) UnloadModule: "modesetting" [ 66.829] (II) UnloadModule: "fbdev" [ 66.829] (II) UnloadModule: "vesa" [ 68.026] (II) LoadModule: "evdev" The CPU is an Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU N3150 according to lscpu, of which Braswell is apparently some former code name. Not really designed for gaming, but it performs decently with most indie titles I've tried -- been playing Shadowrun: Hong Kong lately, which runs smoothly enough as long as I have HD textures turned off. As far as switching drivers, I'll back up my files and give it a try at some point but not for a little while I think. I might not be ready to dive in that deep yet.

Just a follow-up, I tried running it with LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 playonlinux, and it does run, but obviously isn't playable without hardware acceleration. This at least seems to confirm that it's a hardware or driver issue on my end. Changing to the mode setting driver didn't make a difference.
user@box ~ $ grep -i loadmodule /var/log/Xorg.0.log [ 61.539] (II) LoadModule: "glx" [ 61.841] (II) LoadModule: "modesetting" [ 61.909] (II) LoadModule: "glamoregl" [ 63.243] (II) LoadModule: "fb" [ 64.381] (II) LoadModule: "evdev" If there's nothing else to try, I'll just request a refund from Steam and check back when there's a Linux client or I get different hardware.

Doesn't work in Gentoo. Installed PlayOnLinux via
emerge app-emulation/playonlinux Installed vcrun2013 in PoL Installed Steam Launched Steam, logged in, installed CoDE. But it won't launch. I briefly get a window saying "performing first run configuration" which crashes/disappears in less than a second. No other errors.

As a follow-up to the above, I run Gentoo x64 on an Eurocom Tornado F5, a powerful laptop www.eurocom.com/configure(2,384,0)ec My configuration includes an i7-6700 CPU (Skylake), 16GB RAM and Nvidia GTX1070M video with 8GB VRAM. Using the current Xorg from the Gentoo repo, with the current nvidia driver from the repo also (381.22). No Optimus/bumblebee as this laptop doesn't use the integrated video at all. Using a "desktop" profile with all packages synced and updated to their stable versions as of this morning.

Here's a log of a playonlinux session in which CoaDE fails to launch. All I did was: launch PoL, start Steam inside it, log into Steam, attempted to launch CoaDE twice with the behavior described above, exit Steam, exit PoL. While I was trying to launch the game, no new messages appeared in the terminal while I was attempting that. The last message displayed at that point was the line where ALSA complains of unknown PCM default. I don't know what that ALSA error is about but sound plays fine in other games.

Also I've registered now on the board so that I can edit posts from now on; I wanted to add that all of the messages after "unknown default PCM" appeared only after I started shutting down PoL.
(edit) I've fixed the ALSA messages by uninstalling Pulseaudio; it was installed but I wasn't using it anyway. No more ALSA messages in the PoL output, but the game still doesn't start, and other games run fine including audio.
