Okay let's not discuss the tactic which is worth what it's worth, but here's how I crashed the game several times, while it didn't happen in my few former attempts to engage:
-Put my carrier on same orbit as target but opposite direction
-Eject my drones
-put my carrier on a lower orbit and set my drone fleet as Flyby Target
-Crashed to desktop three times in a row in the last few turns (or last one, can't be conclusive without trying another time) before intercept
