This is my Flak, the coilgun doesnt seem to read the metal part, and only seems to accelerate the solid projectile mass behind it, why is that ? also, general advice on flak coilguns would be nice. thanks

I don't think the game currently models any properties of the payload besides mass (and maybe strength). Unfortunately that means if you want to launch a payload with a coilgun you will need a non-trivial mass of sabot / projectile behind it (probably MMG).
I'd put my flak inside a missile and give it more delta v that way, even if you launch it from a coilgun. (Or I'd make a *very light* flak, total mass under 1 gram, and just launch many of them instead. Railguns may be better at firing them in that case.)

I was crunching numbers on payload launched payloads and how much damage they do vs those same guns launching solid kslugs. For example check this out. childrenofadeadearth.boards.net/post/10470Does anyone know how to calculate the damage flak does vs HE does vs Nukes? Maybe you have to calculate the flak splinters as if they were one big kslug, find the velocity and total mass of the flak splinters, and find the impact damage that way? But I don't know how the velocity of the initial flak projectile BEFORE it explodes comes into this. Is the initial energy of the velocity and mass the added to the additional velocity and mass of the propelled splinters of the flak? That would be good to share if you have any info. Please share your ideas. Looking for your perspective/ experiences.

A railgun firing a 1g osmium projectile at ~100 km/s is far less lethal than a railgun firing a 150 mg flak needle using a 1g osmium sabot at similar speed. There may or may not be an armor bug hiding there somewhere. gedzilla - Sub-gram flak is plenty lethal, so I'd recommend going for that. It will let you use MMG sabots without ballooning costs.
