What do Moderators do when a thread has turned toxic? Typically if the thread has little useful content, the whole thing gets deleted. No, typically the moderator locks the thread and gives all involved in the toxicity a warning. In a useful thread, if a moderator sees an insult or other deviation from code of conduct, he may delete the deviation out of the post and give the poster a warning. If a person accumulates warnings, that person may get temporarily banned. If a person has been temp-banned before already, the person may be permanently banned. Regularly deleting your own insults can be seen as an attempt at evading justice, and depending on the moderator that can be viewed more harshly than leaving them open.

As Moderator I'm sure Argonbalt has the power to go back and see all the deleted comments that ever were and to even post them if he chooses to.
Let's leave the second guessing up to him.
And by the way, I've never insulted anyone on this board intentionally. I've never called anyone anything besides their username. And I've never shared my personal opinion on anyone or asked others to share their opinion on them.
The only comments I deleted/ edited are comments that were unintentionally seen as negative or after reviewing them, could be seen as such. Some others have made many openly hostile/ rude comments and have not edited or deleted them. Instead of focusing on me, you need to go talk to them.
I and everyone should think about what they write, and do their best to be clear. If they are misunderstood, they have the duty and the obligation to clarify what they are saying through editing and deleting if necessary.
We should have the good sense to accept that people being people have misunderstandings and to LET THINGS GO when they make it clear what they really meant.

What we are missing and what we need is good faith. We have to give other members the benefit of the doubt in what they say, and not assume they mean the worst. That's why I sincerely hope qswitched adds #5 to the Code of Conduct. I really wish qswitched would have taken into account our member generated Code of Conduct before issuing his own. It's really important to have good faith or nothing else matters. If someone is determined to argue and to find offense in everything you say, then whatever you say will be interpreted negatively. We need good faith most of all, not more and more authority more "Space Courts" and the like. It will just turn into a Star Chamber. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Chamber

Maybe this bit of human nature explains why earth is eventually dead and we're flying around in tin cans powered by barely contained radioactive piles, flinging cosmic dust at each other.

Everyone please note you can vote for up to three choices on the poll to fully try to cover all your opinions on the matter. I should have added a "none of the above" but I ran out of spaces. Our opinions matter, they always matter, so it's still worth it to add your opinion/vote. Case in point, this thread directly led to changes in the COADE Board. Not but a few hours after this thread was put up, qswitched added a Code of Conduct very similar to the one we drafted, and added a Moderator. That is not a coincidence. Attachments:

PS Here is the new Code of Conduct for reference here. Of course it is other places by why not?
To note, the Code of Conduct is almost verbatim 1, 3, and 4 of our draft although they were made much shorter. (On a second review it looks like 2 was incorporated into 3, and 5/6 into 4.)
Overall I'm pretty happy with the new Code of Conduct myself.
"Code of Conduct Be Civil - Don't be a dick. No insults, personal attacks, harassment, defamation. Stay on Topic - Keep memes and off topic posts to the General Discussion board. No Spamming or Trolling - Avoid picking fights, repeating the same phrases/threads, abusing the 'report post' feature, or posting ads. Do Not Post Personal Information of Others"
Here is the original also for reference...
"Code of Conduct Posting Content 1. Make in-depth contributions. We expect all contributions in the Children of a Dead Earth Board to be thoughtful and constructive. This also means spamming (sending/posting the same message/comment indiscriminately to multiple recipients/threads) is not allowed on COADE Board. Put effort into your submissions, and do not submit comments intended to end a discussion. 2. Be Serious. Occasional memes and jokes are welcome, but should be restricted to the General Discussion Board. Submissions in general should be for the most part serious, thoughtful and constructive. 3. Stay on-topic. This is a Children of a Dead Earth Board, so please be mindful of straying too far from the topic at hand. This does not apply to the General Discussion Board. Personal Conduct 4. Be civil. As Wil Wheaton says, "don't be a dick." No insults, personal attacks, or general rudeness on the Children of a Dead Earth Board. 5. Assume good faith. Don't accuse others of trolling because you had a disagreement. 6. Personal disputes should be private. If there is a personal disagreement or dispute, the members should work it out privately. Failing that it should be submitted to the Moderator(s) for arbitration. Public personal disputes have no place on COADE Board. They stifle discussion and create a toxic atmosphere."
