Gas armor, plasma armor, MAGICAL FORCE FIELD yes they are possible, but let's put them in Moh SF scale: 5. So not even a strategic 10 km-aperture laser? sigh
I wonder what its range would be in CoaDE, actually. Wasn't it X-ray? Probably low interstellar, then. And it would probably be enough to kill Earth once and for all. Thor's Hammer was X-ray?

YEs Thor's hammer and the Geirsberg fortress main weapon were both huge X-ray lasers, though in the show they act as giant particle cannons so it does not really matter.

Oh it is really good, though that is mainly for the space politics and politics in general than for science. It really focuses on the history documentary style of story(which makes sense seeing as the creator studied history). If i had to rank the hardness id say it is a solid 6 or 7, ships have manoeuvring thrusters but make sound in space, the ships themselves are pretty nicely designed very close to the grey cylinders of COADE, over all better than star wars but not as hard as the expanse per say.

It is the best SF show I have seen, bar none.
In one sentence, "If Homer had made a Space Opera show". A bit on the slow side, though. Also George R R Martin is an amateur. IIRC, the director has been nicknamed Mass Murderer because of this series. This is the only show to make me worry when a character I liked was sent to do something dangerous - not just "will the writers kill him off?" but actually "oh crap don't take unnecessary risks I'm serious"

Yeah, I recently re-watched it and I didn't catch whichever bit of dialogue talks about what kind of laser is used on the stations. Almost none of the tech is explained, it's all secondary to the political stuff. I don't think they even explicitly acknowledge that there's an FTL "jump" tech in use until like episode 80.

What GRR did was basically make an epic fantasy feeling series and then pulled the blindfolds off and went "Pscyh! actual medieval feudalism sucked big time! Anyone can die! Women are treated like shit! Peasents are treated like shit! Dragons are like atoms bombs!" For that i love it.

I tried to read the first half-book (editions here cut them in half) but found it excessively boring. Now, people told me that the translation was pretty bad (so I should read them in original English) and that things got more interesting later on (the Lord of the Rings syndrome, where the first half-book is hard to endure but it becomes great later) - and that more than "simple" epic fantasy/gritty medieval low fantasy, the books were based on deeper points that helped it hold strong. But I still have this instinctive reaction to it. I'll probably read and/or watch it once it will be completed, though. What I was referring to is that Martin gets lots of credits for his "anyone can die", but LoGH did it before, and boy is it bloody. Then again, so was the Iliad.

"anyone can die" was mainly a buzzword marketed by post HBO fans as one of those WOWY ZOWY WHAT AN INCREDIBLE CONCEPT, allot like how dark souls was sold with the whole "PREPARE TO DIE" spin. In truth allot of the books are actually told from limited/biased perspectives such that if you read them in a "spoon feed me the direction of the tale" stuff like the red wedding does seem to come out of no where and shock you, but if you pay attention to the subtext allot of it is already in there pretty deep as subtle hints and premonitions.

Pretty sure x-ray lasers should not be visible, move slower than light, or be surrounded by space lightning. Though the usage of an x-ray laser as a base defense weapon makes perfect sense.
