SUCCESS! - Detuned railgun to not break physics, increased projectile weight to 5g, same as 33mm cannon, still osmium, still fires faster at higher velocity. Railgun is actually lighter than 33mm cannon.
- Railgun is now turreted to reduce aiming time.
- Eliminated Florine fuel use for much safer and practical Decane/LOX
- Refactored hull length and diameter to match Stinger MK1 to minimize retrofit requirement on Stinger armed capships.

I obviously don't have experience in that particular field, but I still imagine that there'd be some non-trivial engineering going on to get the and drone sabot to fit in snugly , as well as the issue of getting the sabot to separate neatly without damaging the radiators. It'd be worse if the drone was actually longer than the Stinger, like mine is.Armor-Piercing- Fin-Stabilized-Discarding-Sabot can have fins that start out folded in close to the penetrator, and snug inside the sabot. When the sabot leaves, the fins spring out. I believe it would be rather trivial. Also in atmosphere, any sub-caliber munition that needs a sabot discards it to reduce drag, since low cross section is the reason for sub-caliber anyway. For CDE we could have reason to believe a munition might keep its sabot after launch, since vacuum offers no drag. Don't recall any folding fin APFSDS or other high velocity subcalibre rounds. Certainly not a common configuration in any case, as they tend to have rigid bore riding or subcalibre fins. What does exist is full bore folding fin HEAT-FS or HE-FS ammunition, including both tank ammunition and mortar rounds, plus various missiles soft-launched from guns.

The launchers in game do not have barrels, no need for a sabot. Think of it as a small electromagnetic ram. Put something on it, press launch, and it's out in space.

The missiles will take the heat so your drones don't have to. I've been up to no good and added a salvo of seven 3m long anti-cap flak missiles as a secondary weapon/laserbait. Smart people would do things like launch the drones and missiles separately and maneuver them as a fleet to save mass, but where is the fun in that? But you can still save delta V on the drones by launching all missiles before maneuvering, missiles have enough dV to keep up

My attempt at a decent replacement for the Stinger. About 2 meters shorter, much more effective armor against lasers, about 1.2 tons lighter, less than a third of the price, triple the DV, close to double the acceleration, a slightly better gun and (IMO) looks way cooler. It's nowhere near the best, but I'm proud of it being the first ship/drone I designed using all custom parts. Attachments:

I wouldn't go that far, that laser can probably swat standard Stinger drones by the hundreds well beyond their effective range. The addition of a MPD would give it more delta-v to play with. The (probably NTR?) decane rocket attached to it atm is a bit overkill putting out almost 35gs. So some improvements could be made... I think just swaping to a Neon MPD would bring the cost and mass down to below the current stinger and give it more delta-v

Can we get the code for that railgun? I want to see if I can use that and make an upgrade to my AQ-5 Yellow Jacket drones.

MK4A Multirole is latest design. - Length increase by 6m due to 3m missile system, now 3m longer than classic Stinger.
- Delta V reduced to 3.74km/s loaded, 4.58km/s if missiles launched immediately
- credit cost reduced 50% to 50kcred
- Boron armor thinned
- Minor reactor improvements.
- Radiator redundancy increased, craft will function normally with 1.5 radiators remaining.
- 1.9mm railgun upgraded to higher velocity MK3
- 7 rounds of Walnut MK2 flak missile, 4.60km/s, 20kg flak payload

Nitpick, but a 1.9mm radius is a 3.8mm bore.
I also made minor tweaks to slightly improve accuracy for a negligible changes in mass.
(Thickness to 7.9cm, radius to 1.84mm (bore to 3.68mm) Turret to 11.8cm with 88kRPM).
3.99km/s & 3.37km/9.06km/28.6km, 54.6dps, 107kg

After careful consideration Zoe Technical Supplies judged that the weakness in the stinger was it's inability to deal with smaller and out of vector threats and the inconsistencies in planned lifespan. The design team thereby produced a turreted high accuracy series of drones, while many were failures Illern (the polecat/ferret) was judged as a worthy successor. // What I really like about these is the pinpoint accuracy, disabling the range limit with the guns will have them kill stingers @ 100km and most basegame ships I've tested it against the first salvo goes through the main weapon the reactor and the main weapon on the opposing side (convenient placing though, I hope most won't design their ships like that), the only thing it has problems killing is missiles heading straight for it since the sloping deflect pretty well on those, but having them defend a larger target they can usually take out 1-2 missiles per drone, giving them a nice extra role as secondary point defence.
