Come back with your Whipple shield, or on it. Isn't that meant to be shot to bits to save your ship?

Hmm, I guess cryotubes could make for decent enough escape pods if the technology exists. Just have the tubes triple function as crew beds, cold sleep capsules for long journeys, and escape pods in emergency.
It's also probably the only practical option considering it would take months or years for someone to pick you up...

I guess it would be more of a miniaturized spacecraft module which has its crew in hibernation with the brain and necessary parts being the only non-hibernated parts (eyes may not even work, just use implants). In case of emergency, the crews will be sent into full long hibernation to preserve resources, waiting for aid.

The game seems to think that a single person escape pod comes at almost 3t each, and almost 5 cubic meters of volume. Cost is less important at 16.9 kc. Storing those is probably not feasible except for larger ships. Life support takes a lot of aluminum, it looks like? The crew compartments always assume a six month supply; aluminium is a placeholder type material standing in for provisions in this case, and in other cases things like gun loaders and engine plumbing. I guess it would be more of a miniaturized spacecraft module which has its crew in hibernation with the brain and necessary parts being the only non-hibernated parts (eyes may not even work, just use implants). Jesus Christ how horrifying.

Well, during my battle test most ship got "tactically knocked out" during missile engagement; they usually lost engine, heat sink or weapons, but their hull and crew quarter are still operational. So I don't think they really need much escape pod. Besides, due to extensive usage of nuclear warhead, escape pod launched during battle may got fried.
