From what I have read micromissile are the way to go.That is if you dont encounter a 1000 km laser. From my perspectiv laser and missiles are pretty boring. There is just something satisfing when you see your ship broadsiding the enemy. So I suppose this could be a thread where you can put all your gun based ships which are nowhere near as effective as the 1000km death laser arrays.

I made a pretty fun front mounted gunship based around a highly impractical main railgun. It is pretty fun but ridiculously expensive and heavy. imgur.com/a/vqzMZ

Why does your weapon not have the Shorthand Range Box? Are you using the current version of the game?

All the poor people are waiting for a steam sale to come along...
a sugestion: use a 100g frag shell with a 8s flare on its end for projectiles. The flare works like a timed fuse and sets it off at just about its max effective range giving you that bit extra accuracy in long range fights.

All the poor people are waiting for a steam sale to come along... Even if I didn't own the game, (which I do), do you really think attacking someone online who can't afford a 20$ game is the best thing to do? They would be in a hard enough spot as it is...

Attacking? Are you really that sensitive that you can not tell a statement of fact from one meant to do offence?
imo piracy is one of the best things for small games these days, it's basically free advertising on the scale that old games mags used to do with demo CD's...

*Mildly embarrassed shrug* I'm pretty sure the only games I ever bought without playing a pirated version first was under £5

ANYWAYS... took a look at the design. That acceleration is awful, how do you ever turn in combat?

ANYWAYS... took a look at the design. That acceleration is awful, how do you ever turn in combat? I have always entered combat with the ship facing the enemy so turning speed wasn't really a high priority, like I said it is just a for fun giant railgun not very practical. Also in space you will be aware of incoming enemies days in advance and can have your ship pre-aligned accordingly assuming you out range them and don't need to burn in and then broadside orient turning time wouldn't really be necessary. For a close in fighting ship I would 100% agree turn-about time would be much more important.

It was scrolled down to show the cost You should be able to get more performance with a smaller railgun if you are firing 1g projectile there isn't really much sense in using a coil gun. I had a slightly faster railgun firing needle frags here . I pretty much suck at making guns so I guess it can be optimized a lot , but is till a lot lighter and cheaper than yours , still its unreasonably heavy , the thing that I use currently on its place is around 87km/s and around 300t , turns a lot faster. Keep in mind that the guns are currently broken , especially the coil guns and you can expect to get unreasonable performance from a kW range coil guns reaching similar speeds. That is if you are not squeamish about abusing the game .

A realistic 100% efficiency EM accelerator canon can fire 165g at 110km/s with 1GW input energy, so that thing looks legit, it's only shooting 66g/s

A warning: Needlegun impacts cause a ludicrous amount of lag. Often crashes the game even with a very low rate of fire.
