Sadly, this game won't allow us to create fuel tanks of a forms like slanted truncated cone, pyramid/cone crossover, toroidal tanks; nor does it allow us to write a mod like, say, in KSP, to do just that (which is much worse 'in my book').
At the same time, it can be argued that for some battleship designs, conical frontal section is the best from armor perspective.
What I want is to have a script which reads, say, generatrix-to-axis angle & base radius or - alternatively - base radius and cone height, and outputs optimal series of pill-shape tank dimensions (with certain minimal tank size, and maybe min.size step) and corresponding packing multiplier (see circle packing) for a given tank layer to optimally fill such a cone (well, truncated cone in fact, because of necessary min.size limit).
Any input is welcome: formulas, pseudo-code, code in any language, ideas on best algorithm to achieve this, software/libraries, anything.
