Oh another reason not to nuke a planet. You are trying to conduct regime change.

Update that the Youtube channel The Templin Institute released a video specifically about invading a planetary body called "Launching Your Planetary Invasion | Orbital Bombardment, Dropships, & The Escalation Ladder" www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgN5yq362_sThe key thing they are saying is that orbital bombardment doesn't always make sense. E.g. You might be doing a planatary crisis response, e.g. planetary evac or dealing with the aftermaths of a natural asteroid strike So a drop pod carrier truss would still at least keep cost lower by minimizing materials needed to transport the ship (plus faster to transport). Plus the pods can then be other stuff like relief supplies. Might be interesting to have a peaceful example in this game as well. (e.g. the logistics of a plantary rescue effort).
