Ok so I just discovered this superb and very costly armor material of nickel phosphorous microlattice. It is less than half as dense as silica aerogel and has much better physical properties. So be it it cost over 5,000 credits per kg But enough about it in game. I decided to look it up in real life and it turns out that microlattices have some seriously impressive properties! For example microlattices are some of the least dense material out there and they are very elastic. According to one source I read the microlattice can be compressed to half its original volume and return back to full size. In addition it is fairly strong and quite a good insulator! So it isn't that surprising that it is such a great armor material. So has anyone else found some sort of really interesting material that might be useful ingame or is already in game?

I know that graphite aerogel was discovered to be extremely effective at stopping high-V kenetic at thickness of up to 1m or more. Given its cheapness and low density I've got a few ideas churning on some unique armor schemes.

Borosilicate glass apparently has an resistivity of 10^-12 ohms, i guess it's some sort of superconductor.

One thing I don't think is in the game is metal mesh. Apparently, the ISS uses a lot of this for its outer whipple shield. It behaves much like normal aluminium alloy (or steel for the Russian sections -- no joke!) but the fragments from spalling and plugging are much smaller and easier to deal with.

Aluminum foam (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0263822301000290) is some seriously good armoring material, and it's not in-game yet.
