Q liked a post where I complained about fixed guns, and my old design diagram which included polygonal hulls and concavity, both implemented recently, as well as internal guns offset from the nose with limited traverse. I'd say it's on the way already.
Still, while we're talking about improving the ends of ships, how about some engine bay doors too?
bigbombr made a thread about mass driver propulsion, and I unintentionally made drones that propelled themselves away from their targets while firing. It should be really easy to implement; just add a tickbox to gun design that switches it to use engine behaviour. This should also be switchable in combat, making your engines into weapons!
Ah, were you the one who made the graphic with sloped turrets? That (sloped turrets where all the armor is on the outside) seems much easier than center-gimballed internal guns with nose cones.
I made the primitive drawing for the sloped turrets As it is I want to use them on my super cap ships as they are mostly empty space but almost 2km long and less than 200m wide to take full advantage of the ricocheting effect of highly sloped armor which honestly totally outclasses equal line of sight thickness of flat armor. The only issue though is my flippin turrets are so easy to knock out! If I could just give them a sloped turret like the hull shape of my war ships they would survive a lot better. So be it the armor would only really help against frontal attacks but that is the only way the ship is supposed to fight as the armor isn't that thick, just highly sloped.
