Greetings.
As you guys may know, Children of a Dead Earth it not very popular and the sole developer, qswitched , can't live on it.
After a talk with a friend from Orion's Arm Universe Project's discord server (who complained that the UI and the controls are 'frustratingly bad', something I do agree), I came up with some ideas about the future of the game.
I don't know whether if these ideas are even possible, but I figured out that suggesting them here would be better than keeping my mouth shut, a rare case.
1. Make the game open-source, and help qswitched with Patreon.
Open-sourcing is suggested by many people as a solution to solve the problem of having one part-time developer, by having more part-time volunteer developers. I believe that there are some people who are capable of, and willing to help code the game.
The problem is open-sourcing means everyone can take the code for free. I don't know if there is any way to make those who take the information pay some money, but I think I don't need that.
I suggest using Patreon, or something similar. Many people in this forums and discord server alike stated that they're willing to pay qswitched monthly.
2. Make Children of a Dead Earth into a franchise, and start more open-source projects.
As I've mentioned at the beginning, Children of a Dead Earth is not very popular. I believe that this is because the game isn't 'attractive' enough, and so it is not well-known. I believe that making any new technology 'attractive' to the people is an important thing to do in order to attract more people into purchasing and using that technology.
While you can just improve the current game we have, the alternative way is to turn it into a franchise. Rewrite the story, code new games and write new novels based of it, then put them on maybe the current Children of a Dead Earth website. Play as a civilian ship trying to ship stuffs to various locations, as a colonization spacecraft arriving at the edge of the Solar System, as a stationmaster working hard to maintain the habitability of the space station, a game containing theorical propulsion systems, srbrant -style spin-offs, the list goes on.
These are some ideas that I can think of about helping the game develop faster, better, and become more popular. Please suggest more ideas if you have any, and positively criticize the ideas.
Brainstorming is never a bad thing to do, especially in situations like these, I believe.
