100,000 square meters sounds like a pretty big frigate to me. 1 km long, 100m hull diameter? You should probably lose a zero or two from that. Even if i use the min value listed for a naval frigates RCS of 5,000 m^2 I still get a 90% detection at 18,000 Km Also keep in mind that the cylindrical shapes used in game currently are highly susceptible to creeping wave issues and will have very high RCS values even for smaller ships. basicsaboutaerodynamicsandavionics.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/sphere_wave_behav_1.jpg?w=1200i.imgur.com/80nWMPR.pngKeep in mind this does not take into account sensor fusion, better future TR modules this is what is available today from a standalone system.

I would also like to add that RCS stands for Radar Cross Section and has little to nothing to do with how big the object actually is. You can have a fighter that has an RCS of 15 m^2 (Mig-29) or a fighter of roughly the same size with an RCS of 0.00001 m^2 (F-35). It gets more complicated when you measure in different bands (S-band vs X-band for example) and from different angles but you get the point. I'll also clarify that the RCS values I'm using are from this source listed in my previous post: www.emcos.com/?application-examples=nalysis-of-rcs-problems-in-ship

I'm looking forward to implementation of temperature system and propellant boil-off sometimes in the future updates, if possible. Shouldn't be too hard to implement, I guess. I asked Q about boil off before the game came out and he said it was in it. But it must be unrealistic cause in this game cryogenic fuel will sit nicely in your tanks for days or even months without noticeable boil off! IRL it is a real problem that requires solutions like storable fuel. Speaking of, I want storable fuels in the next update!!! Solar panels and radars! Now that i have some extra time; I'm a little skeptical that Radars will be implemented for many reasons. Doing the calculations for the RCS of ships, missiles, drones ect all in real time for different bands and angles would be a very processor intensive task, this game already struggles with moderate object counts and/or ships above a kilometer. Secondly Not much info is out there to to build a model that will allow us users to create the AESA T/R modules (in various different operating bands) that comprise the radar. There is also the issue of how will it handle the complex coding that goes into making its various modes work (barrage scan, cued search, Track while scan, low probability of intercept ect) So how would the radar design be handled in game? This rabbit hole could go deeper into the complexities of Sensor fusion (and its various different levels of complexity and uses), data links, background noise (dependent on distance from the sun) The only way I can see this being done is a simple model in which you specify the band the T/R modules operate in, the number of modules, basic scan volume of the module, Power, and duty cycle. All this would be very simplistic but allow for generalizations upon which to build the in game system.

This part could be pre-calculated for a set of angles (26 for a 45° increment I think) and interpolated at runtime.

Depending on what the integral looks like it might not be too bad. If you don't care about interreflection, you can integrate illumination of an object for visible light pretty cheaply on the GPU. Since radar is EM radiation too, it might behave in a similar fashion, just with different material parameters.

Are there any news on mission editor or multiplayer yet? The sandbox, ship and module editors werent enough to keep me playing... But I'd love to build missions and play ones created by others. The FAQ here says no to the question of multiplayer.

Examples: imgur.com/QdwFDkpimgur.com/3fwZB1zSome radar waves even have the ability to penetrate into the interior of a structure and reflect off of interior surfaces and features.

I wonder if he got scolded by the CIA because North Korea used CDE to help build their latest fusion nuke that was all over the news about a month after qswitched's most recent activity.

It has been really quiet everywhere I've looked lately. Any word? Qswitched hasn't even been on the forum since June...

It occured to me to try reaching qswitched via the contact address at childrenofadeadearth.com. He's fine, just been busy. The next update is "half finished".
