A joint deep-space expedition is seeking to travel to the Kuiper belt in order to investigate, and possibly harvest, a large body that promises to drive down prices for a number of rare lanthanides. Our astronauts are joining the mission without sidearms in a show of good faith.
Naturally, we need a backup plan. While assembling complete combat craft, even drones, would rely on constructing launching systems and control systems that exceed reason, we do know that normal naval manufacturing equipment will be available on the mission vessel, and we believe it will be possible for our crew to have the unmonitored access to the equipment which they will need, if they are to assemble weapons with which they will defend themselves from any aggression on behalf of the other mission participants.
We need, therefore, plans for miniaturized weapon systems that are based on naval designs, but small enough to be aimed and used by suited humans. Additionally, our weapons must be optimized to overcome the weapon systems our so-called allies will surely manufacture and turn against us.
The weapons will operate in space, and must have sufficient internal cooling and power to operate; the suits do not have spare capacity. The weapons must be effective against an individual wearing an EVA suit; we anticipate them to design some kind of armor about 1 cm thick, but it may be as thin as 1mm or as thick as 3 cm depending on their approaches, techniques, and expectations. Prepare for a wide spectrum of armors.
The battle may, in fact, take place on the body itself, which is hundreds of km in diameter, with many sightlines of 1km or more. Therefore, the effective range must be at least 1km against a man-sized target. It must mass 6 kg or less, with lower masses generally receiving preference. The weapon must likewise be 2 meters or less in length, and ideally much shorter. While our suits are highly radiation-resistant, it must have minimal waste heat and radiation to allow some level of stealth in corridors and on the dwarf's surface. The complete system must also have a 1kg control module, which later designers will reconfigure into an ergonomic grip, trigger, and sight mechanism, and it must have light armor, suitable to protect the internal components from grit and stowage.

When we received the contract from Pttg 's company, we were sure that we will be able to design something that fits their request. We decided that our weapon will be a combustion gun. Lasers usually produces large amount of waste heat, and seems to be an overkill in this mission. As always, lasers can be stationed on the spacecraft, waiting for a bombardment if need be. Combustion guns take much less energy to operate than its magnetic counterparts, and at extremely low power, is much more effective. The next question seems to be about energy. An astronaut's body heat (max: 100 watts per person) is enough to power the gun, but for versatility, it can be equipped with an RTG. The astronaut's radiation-shielding suit should be enough. Finally, the armor is 1.000 millimeters thick. As with most other sane handheld weapon designs, we do not expect it to survive an enemy shot anyways. When fully assembled, the gun's mass is 3.62 kg. Without the RTG, its mass is 3.31 kg. Each magazine has 100 shots, maximum fire rate of 200 ms per shot. An interesting note about the RTG is that the outlet temperature is 297 K, a comfortable temperature. It can be used to cool the astronaut before heading to the radiators.

Attempt 5: OsStorm-UL 100 shot metal storm system designed after I realized the OsStorm-L had insane recoil and was excessively powerful. This version is even lighter and cheaper, has almost as much kinetic energy per shot as an M-16 but less than half the impulse per shot, making it easier to ontrol while firing in microgravity. Recommended as an armguard mounted sidearm (this leaves the hands free for other weapons or for bracing). Treptoplax Design Bureau is please to present for consideration a light automatic gun with underslung nuclear grenade launcher. It's all designed to be easily produced at standard military fabricators: The gun has a 400 round magazine, launching 1g slugs at 1.5Km/s at almost 10 rounds/second; the 'turret' is intended to be locked in the fully forward position. The underslung grenade launcher fires a single 94T nuclear warhead at just over 2Km/s. (Given the implied recoil it might be prudent to brace the gun or use some sort of improvised bipod or tripod for use of the grenade launcher, but informing the men of this is left to the discretion of field commanders). If desired, the grenade launcher can be reconfigured to a conventional (fragmentation?) warhead totalling 750g; heavier warheads at lower speed or ultrasmall missiles may also be a viable option if desired. Alternately, and perhaps more safely, multiple small payloads can be used instead; we suggest 12x 30g osmium flack. More specialized weapons would be more effective, but in the event programming time available is limited this single weapon gives extra options.

Attempt 6: Man Portable Laser (MPL) Hard to keep on target, but in close range (less than 1 km), it will swiftly burn trough most materials. It can burn optics from much further. Mods: Molten Gold, CE:LLF, Vitreous Carbon ... and graphene, and graphene encapsulated stuff. I tried building a laser for this myself just now and ran into power issues, as expected.

The paper thin radiators are cheesier. Reactor weight, even without mods shouldn't be an issue. Radiator weight probably is. Editing limits to make them impossibly thin 'solves' this.
