Ok so here's a silly idea I came up with. Make a somewhat combat effective ship entirely out of precious metals (other than engines and fuel) such as silver gold and platinum. This includes armor, crew modules, weapons, etc, etc. Bonus points for being made out of pure gold and additional points for making the ship look good! Diamond's not included as it is pretty bland to look at and if it's on a ship it's probably just industrial grade Here's a simple pure gold railgun: Update: Mostly the ship should be made of the common precious metals: gold, platinum, silver. Nuclear fuel is permitted along with magical aluminum. Other platinum group elements are ok but the focus should be on classic precious metals wherever possible. Preferably use mercury as a propellant or molten versions of the metals but otherwise use any fuel you want.

If you're allowing noble metals and platinum group metals, then Copper, Silver, Gold, Mercury (for fuel), Ruthenium, Rhodium, Palladium, Rhenium, Osmium , Platinum and Iridium (not sure if all of these are even simulated, I know for a fact we have Mercury, Copper, Silver, Gold, Osmium, Iridium and Platinum If you allow for nuclear fuel and the arbitrary aluminum that gets magically added to most modules then this is doable and would probably be fun, though the ships will probably be horribly heavy and under-optimized. While I'm at it, Why is osmium still black instead of silvery blue?

So, funny story. In Iron Man (2008), Tony Stark says he made his suite with a titanium-gold alloy. The writers maybe picked it because it would explain the gold from the red-and-gold color scheme of his suit. Then, in 2015, researchers accidentally discovered that an alloy of titanium and gold, when heated to a sufficiently high temperature, crystallizes on a beta phase, making it 4x stronger than most steels (UTS = 2658 MPa). The formula is just the plain old Ti3Au. Here's an article about it. Unfortunately I can't find most other properties, so no modding it in. But I'd want to build a ship out of that for this challenge. Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave, after all.

This reminded me of a ship built by someone back then called 'heart of gold'. It was made mostly by gold, and it sucks, too. Heavy, weak materials won't do much good.

I didn't find much. Actually I think the MK1 Cave iron man was just made out of steel plates and whatever junk was laying around. I don't think the gold-titanium alloy became a thing until he made it back to his workshop and built the MK2/MK3 with the advanced robotic manufacturing and such. (Could be wrong, don't know much about superheroes) But its still interesting nonetheless. Also a 2.6GPA Tensile strength is nothing to laugh at. Somebody should see if they can track down the remainder of the properties and see about getting this on material suggestions.

The only non-gold parts were the reactor fuel, the propellant in the tanks and half the thermocouple (I used platinum).

How strict are we re: usage of depleted uranium and its oxide?
I modded in molten silver as a coolant for this, and getting a reactor to work on the temperature range between its melting point and gold's melting point was exciting, but if we can use platinum + depleted uranium dioxide as a thermocouple we get much better results than platinum + gold. Depleted uranium also helps plenty with railguns.

how bout you have to use Neptunium for fuel instead. It's way more ludicrously expensive and impractical. (And it's green like a Kerbal) also, I agree to enter this competition, only if someone else promises to make a compilation video of everyone's bejeweled space cylinders limping into combat.

I also wanted to make a carrier. Carrying 400 of these: Same materials as before, plus a couple of aluminum-nickel-cobalt stators otherwise you can't launch drones (seemed less of a violation than using explosive compounds anywhere). Everything propelled and cooled by molten silver, as before -- but unfortunately I couldn't put a pump on the carrier to reload the drones. Source: Data\Imports\Heavenly Host.txt
