I'm pretty sure the chemical reaction has something to do with Carbon Dioxide in the drink, Sodium in the tablet, and a few of the other ingredients within the Mento (there's one or two other reacting agents I know of, but forgot the name of).
Last time I did it, uncapped the exhaust velocity was probably around 10 m/s.
Them there's the time when I was younger, capped the bottle off and the cap detonated, which made the liquid shoot way further, and propel the bottle down the street. No clue how fast though.

This thread does bring a serious suggestion with it: mixtures and solutions for thermal rockets. What if instead of just feeding water into the NTR, you feed it a mixture of sugar, sodium, lithium etc dissolved in water? Or some sort of alcohol/water mixture? With the right mix might you be able to increase the propellant density in the tank, or obtain some other performance improvements over using a pure mixture?

Is it possible to mod it in COADE? After all we manage to somehow modded the fusion and NSWR torch drive, and it's time for something relatively low tech

Project Rho has a similar calculation for beer, which gives a exhaust velocity of 83m/s and thrust around 84N.

Of course, it is possible that the lime gets vaporized/fragmented from the core, but what about the pre-core part, where the propelant is not too hot. (Fuel ducts, tanks, regenerative cooling...)

That's because you did an experiment at atmospheric pressure, if you do that Under vacuum, it should much faster

If I'm not mistaken soda + Mentos was mostly a physical reaction. The highly irregular surface of the mentos allows CO2 gas to come out of solution.
