Still no match against player made missiles, but since the distributed fire update, they can hold their own against stock missiles, due to their low power consumption letting you mount dozens of them.

Boost its effectiveness with light and cheap flak payloads!
I have microflak railgun pds as reserve pds since back when laser mounts are still easily destroyed with cap open. Now these pds are actually better than laser at close range. They consume 250MW each though.
Never really use conventional cannon. The usual engagement range is too far for them to be useful

I have railguns for the same purpose, 15g at 11km/s, 1g at 15km/s, and 1g at 9.25km/s. I also have coilguns, 1g at like 20km/s, and 1.5lbs at 4.5km/s

My 9.84km/s 1g railgun is 174 kg, 3.24km/s 1g railgun is about 6 kg, and my 24.2km/s 1g railgun is at 5.15 tons. I;m trying to figure out how to get a screenshot nearly as useful as yours right now, because I can't seem to display as much of the data on screen at once.

I;m trying to figure out how to get a screenshot nearly as useful as yours right now, because I can't seem to display as much of the data on screen at once. use small text, also how did you get them so small? The big breakthrough came last night on the Discord chat - switching to Vanadium Chromium Steel bullets. Then there was min-maxing the barrel length vs the bullet width - you want to get to a point where reducing the length of your barrels brings both the barrel will rupture and the projectile will shatter warnings, simultaneously. In terms of power being pumped through the railgun, utilize as much as is necessary to match the amount the momentum wheels need to turn it fast enough. Finally, minimize on rail width as much as possible, even if it bites a bit into efficiency. I generally aim for above 40% efficiency. Pics here: Edit: Pics are now up! I think. Edit 2: In particular, with my 6.8km/s 500kw gun, I casually stuck 200 of them onto a 100mw reactor drone, and any stock missile salvo just gets completely vaporized within 10km distance or less. It also weighed so little that the drone had massively excess delta-v to spare. If it weren't for crew issues, I'd be sticking 2 000 of them onto my laserstar just because.

Well in terms of railguns, these are currently my best designs for anti-missile purposes. The precision railguns were really intended for anti-capital work, but they've proven remarkably effective at sniping down incoming missiles as well - albeit they're rather heavy and expensive for that purpose; unless I'm missing something significant, you have to sacrifice a lot of mass, volume, and cost to make super-accurate railguns with high muzzle velocities. The lighter variant might be better with 1g instead of 1.5g projectiles fired at a higher velocity... not sure. The velocity on the 10 MW CIWS railgun still feels a little low to me, but not sure whether it's worth increasing that since the thing is intended to be as light and cheap as reasonably possible.

A-HA I has min-maxed better, my 40.9km/s railgun fireing 1.1g rounds is 12 tons lighter (and 2.5x as spendy) as your 60Mw Medium railgun

Do you happen to have a picture? My larger precision railgun variants always did feel a bit inefficient with regard to mass (which IMO is rather more important than cost), but I'm not much good at optimization and couldn't figure out how to improve on them. The capacitors for mine turned out unreasonably heavy, I feel.
