Right now my go to is Graphite Areogel, since it has the best mass to strength ratio, but im dabbling with others, like Boron, and UHMWPE fiber. weirdly, boron seems to be inferior to Graphite Areogel.
What do you use ?

3D-graphene or graphene.

3D-Graphene. It isn't that much thicker than graphene and yet much lighter. Also, sometimes light thick barrel are just better (faster turn speed with less power demand and lighter reaction wheel, probably from the wheel radius.) Haven't dabbled with stock materials yet.

Reticulated vitreous carbon (mod). Similar to graphite aerogel, but the melting point is the full carbon one of ~3900K instead of aerogel's ~1500K, so it can radiate waste heat a lot quicker. Strangely its much lower conductivity isn't an issue (though there was a thread about how graphogel's bulk conductivity should be just as low anyway). I don't entirely like the idea of cladding a gun in foam, so diamond is a close second.
The vantablack modded by someusername6 also seems quite interesting as barrel armour due to its elasticity, strength, and thermal conductivity, and I'm more willing to use it than graphene since it can be produced in appreciable quantities (at extreme expense), but it has a low melting point of ~850K, so it's a great structural material but not for cooling.
I'd like to armour my guns in aramid fiber like I do the turrets, to use as actual armour instead of just a reinforcing material, but that insulates as to increase thermal stress on the weapon. You can also coat guns in extremely thin layers (eg. 0.000000001ym) of things like gold if you don't need a reinforcing/cooling material and just want a nice look.

For not mods like the rest of the forums, Graphite Aerogel for strength or Pyrolytic Carbon for cooling.

Graphite aerogel is generally the best, assuming no mods in use. It's by far the most mass-efficient - unfortunately it does result in large and fragile guns, but if you go with anything more durable, you're looking at many times more mass.

Is graphite aerogel better even when looking at the fact that a much larger gun (for the same degree of protection) results in a much larger turret, which is a lot heavier?

Unless you're using a gun that already overheats then you need to be using something else, ie Diamond, Amorph Carbon, Pyro Carbon.

I generally use amorphous carbon for barrel armor of my railgun to make them more accurate and act as lighter heatsink compared to diamond.

What do you use ? When stock and on a tight mass budget, I use graphite aerogel, but for my guns that tend to overheat, Diamond works as a super good radiator. For guns that dont overheat but have a strength issues, I use Vanadium chromium steel
