Plus, you still have to hit the target. That itself can be hard when your lightseconds out. It's easier to saturate a cone of probability with kinetics then to hold a beam

Argon, the idea that a flashlight with less intensity than average sunlight on Earth's surface will destroy lasing optics is beyond stupid and certainly an oversight by qswitched . sounds like someone hates the wonderful concept of millions of laser pointers shining through space and blinding 747 pilots on a dozen worlds I have no emotional investment here, only objective analysis. IIRC vegemeister or someone calculated lasing damage threshold for most metals to be multiple GW/m 2, so our most of our ingame lasers are pretty much useless until the target is within 200km or so.

Not to mention that any large static installation is vulnerable to sabotage or a strike from a missile container from a Q-ship. Not that its totally a bad idea really its just that you can't rely completely only on one weapon , especially static one. Exactly like relying only on doom lasers, missile spam or a big-gun space dreadnought .

The best Q-ships are the ones from other factions (or "independents") who don't know they are Q-ships. "This is a... refined boron container. Yeah. Just pure, harmless boron. Not a concealed missile at all, and especially not with a mechanism to tear the hull and launch it once you are at destination."

That's a terrible idea and we'd never do that!

What do you mean this cargo pod "leaked" 100-odd KKVs on our capital?

I fairly sure that's basically terrorism and that will get you good dose of SPACE GENOCIDE!

The best way of getting yourself embargoed by everyone else ever invented. And a strategic bombardment with nukes from a proper warship is any less immoral, because you are waving your proud flag around, do you really think all those dead people will care? Q-ships are a viable alternative and anyway this is a deterrent weapon so the shit has either already hit the fan and many of the crew's friends and family are already dead, or as a first strike weapon leaves you open to the exactly reciprocal response from the other side. In both cases an embargo is the least of your problems.
